Exceeding Great and Precious Promises

"Whereby are given unto us exceeding and precious promises: that by these ye might be partkers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust." II Peter 1:4 KJV

A promise is only as good as the one who makes the promise.

The promises here refer to those found in the word of God. The verse starts off by saying whereby. This word literally means through which. Through the knowledge of God’s word, we receive these promises.

The promises of God are exceeding great. Oh, the vastness of God’s promises. They are more than mortal minds can comprehend.

The promises of God are precious to His people.

The word precious means of great value. The thing that makes the promises of the word of God so valuable is that they come from God.

It is by these promises, coming from the knowledge of Christ and His word that we are made partakers of His divine nature.

Though we receive the Spirit of God, when we are born again, we are made partakers of His holy nature as we live by and are conformed to the image of Christ.

As we grow in the word, we become more of a partaker of His divine nature. All of this will help as we fight sin and our flesh to escape the things of the world. Amen!
